The Iconic offer instant outfit recreation technology

The Iconic, an online clothing retailer, has introduced to mobile shoppers ‘Snap to Shop’ clothing recognition technology.

Officially the first retailer in New Zealand to offer this service, The Iconic mobile app allows users to take a photo of an outfit and upload it onto the site, which will then suggest the closest possible item to the one in the photo.

The app uses image-searching technology to browse over 50,000 products and 800 brands and suggest product recommendations instantly.

Chief technology officer, Zoe Ghani, says this is just the beginning of what The Iconic are working on.

“With two out of three of our shoppers purchasing via The Iconic mobile devices this year alone, we know there is a strong demand for a mobile-first and more personalised shopping experience. As a retailer that strives to be at the forefront when creating seamless shopping experiences, ‘snap to shop’ means that customers will be able to discover and receive their favourite products faster than ever.”

The new technology comes just in time for the busy Christmas season. Where no doubt shoppers will be taking advantage of the broad range at The Iconic and quick shipping.

The app is a second end of year high point for The Iconic, after being named as the new selling point for Topshop which departed New Zealand shores in October.

The app is now available for both iOS and Android.

How does Snap to Shop work?

  • Users search items by taking a photo or uploading a photo of a product via the app for inspiration.
  • We then use an algorithm to visually match that photo to products from The Iconic product assortment.
  • Products from The Iconic that visually match the image the user uploaded are then served to the customer for browsing.
  • ‘Snap to Shop’ matches images across our entire portfolio of products including dresses, shirts, shoes, pants and accessories.
  • Users can easily search for products on The Iconic by uploading or taking a photo of clothing they see during the day - whether it’s clothing or accessories posted on social media or in a magazine, in real life or even at another store.
