Our latest creation is nearly always the most exciting. The technology in this field moves so quickly that every site is more advanced than the one before.
Tell me about areas New Zealand retailers typically fall down when establishing ecommerce websites.
Solutionists’ clients obviously, have avoided these problems by coming to us, but we have seen a few pitfalls that others have fallen into.
- It is tempting to avoid integrating POS and stock control software with the website but this is a mistake. Customers expect a seamless experience between online and offline.
- You need to employ a dedicated ecommerce manager who is focused on building sales and understanding and satisfying the online customer. Retailing skills are paramount, technical skills can get in the way.
What are some things that you wish Kiwi retailers knew before they came to launch an ecommerce portal?
Occasionally, we come across retailers who think that building a new ecommerce site is a one-off capital cost and they just send quotes to the board for approval. We think they should see it as the beginning of a long-term business relationship. Success will depend on the solution provider’s technical skills, business understanding, reliability, and ability to innovate, as well as the cost.
