Government looks to outlaw zero hour contracts

Unions say recently proposed law changes around zero hour contracts will make the situation worse rather than helping ban them. Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Michael Woodhouse announced changes on Sunday that he says will curb zero hour contracts once and for all in law, but many disagree.

McDonald’s NZ and Hell Pizza join Restaurant Brands in ruling out zero hour contracts

Two more major fast food chains in New Zealand have followed Restaurant Brands’ lead in abandoning zero hour contracts for employees. Takeaway retailers have been under pressure from Unite Union, whose national director said last week if Restaurant Brands could stop the contracts, so could McDonald’s, BK and Wendy’s.
