The human cost of Dick Smith’s slide into receivership

Earlier this month, Dick Smith shared a moving open letter to customers and suppliers across Australia and New Zealand. The letter described its time in business as “a rare privilege” and acknowledged the loss of trust that accompanied its recent fall from grace. In a recent interview with NZRetail magazine, The Warehouse Group’s former chief executive Mark Powell also spoke of the emotional side of the Dick Smith failure.

Mark Powell has resigned from his position as CEO at The Warehouse Group. He says he won’t look for another executive role at a different company. Instead, Powell, who’s a Baptist pastor, wants to pursue his passions in the faith-based not-for-profit sector and as a company director.
