Nelson-based winemakers Mahana Estates is championing small, family-run businesses with a switch to Kemp Wine Merchants as its new domestic distributor. Winegrower Michael Glover says Kemp appealed because its culture matched Mahana’s own.

New premium milk Aunt Jean’s Dairy hits supermarket shelves

Premium milks have seen tremendous growth over the past two years. The category that market research company Nielsen calls 'Indulgent milk', which includes flavoured milk by Puhoi Valley and Lewis Road Creamery, saw a growth rate of over 2000 percent in 2015, and 34 percent on top of that in 2016. Now there's a new player on the market - Aunt Jean's offers unflavoured, unhomogenised, premium milk.

New independent bookstore Volume to open in Nelson

The fall of corporate booksellers like Borders has allowed passionate independents to rise from the ashes, says the founder of a new bookshop soon to open in Nelson. After many years at the much-beloved Page & Blackmore, Stella Chrysostomou has set up Volume on Church St with co-owner Thomas Koed.
