Colour-matching system Pantone is well-known for leading the way in colour trends. This year, it announced two complementing shades as its ‘Colour of the year’ – rose quartz, and a lilac blue named Serenity. Its colour expert Lee Eiseman spoke at the 2016 International Home + Housewares Show in Chicago earlier this month.

As the global economy has become reinvigorated, North America has emerged as one of the strongest markets for ‘housewares’ in the world. According to the most recent estimates, the US and Canada accounted for 25.9 percent of global housewares retail sales totaling US$322.6 billion. For 2013, U.S. sales grew 5.9 percent over 2012 and 2015 is poised to show even more growth. So what are the latest trends in the market and what opportunities do these present for exporters?

The 77th IHA show took place in Chicago from March 5 - 10 this year. Around 60,000 industry professionals attend every year, with more than a third of the exhibitors coming from outside the United States. IHA lifestyle and trend forecaster Tom Mirabile gave a presentation on Monday about emerging trends affecting the homewares sector.
