How fatal has Volkswagen’s emissions scandal been?

German carmarker Volkswagen has this year been rocked by a significant emissions scandal. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) found that Volkswagen had installed software in diesel engines which could detect when the engines were undergoing emissions testing and adjust their performance to produce deceptively low results. After the scandal broke in September, Volkswagen's global car sales fell 5.3 percent in October according to CNN Money, but how did New Zealand consumers respond?
