Three international retailers to launch first Kiwi stores at Commercial Bay

Six new flagship stores have been announced for the soon-to-open Commercial Bay shopping centre in central Auckland. Three of these stores represent the first standalone stores in New Zealand from large international retailers.

The six flagships are:

  • Calvin Klein
  • Tommy Hilfiger
  • Scotch & Soda
  • R.M. Williams
  • Asics
  • Rip Curl

The flagships represent the first standalone New Zealand stores for American multi-category brands Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, plus Dutch apparel brand Scotch & Soda, will be launching their first standalone New Zealand stores.

R.M. Williams and Asics both opened initial flagships in New Zealand in 2016 and 2017 respectively, and Australian surfwear giant Rip Curl has been present for many years.

The announcement takes Commercial Bay’s leasing to 95 percent. The centre is to open in March 2020 with the commercial tower opening in April 2020.

Scott Pritchard, chief executive of Commercial Bay’s owner and developer Precinct Properties, says it cements the centre as as Auckland’s premier shopping destination.

“We’ve given a lot of thought to curating an outstanding retail offering in the heart of the city. Each retailer has been closely considered to ensure Commercial Bay provides the ultimate shopping experience for Aucklanders, visitors from around New Zealand and international guests to our city.

“Commercial Bay will be a welcoming place with something for everyone. I’m confident our retail mix, combined with a truly world-class food and beverage offering will be a great draw card.”

Peter McWhirter, Scotch & Soda director says: “Commercial Bay presents the perfect opportunity for us to open our first flagship store in New Zealand. Scotch & Soda stores all breathe the same spirit of creativity that we pour into our collections. We work with the history and architecture of the place we’re moving into – absorbing the rich heritage into each unique but recognisable store design – and we are very excited to be part of Auckland CBD’s new home of fashion.”

Some of the more than 100 retailers which have confirmed stores at Commercial Bay include:

  • Kookai
  • Twenty-seven names
  • Icebreaker
  • Storm
  • Whitcoulls
  • Art of Nails
  • Shampoo and Things

Michael Hill to offer lab-grown diamonds in New Zealand

Traditionally, prospective proposers should spend three months’ salary on an engagement ring. It should be a diamond solitaire, ideally one carat or bigger.
