Four years after launching online into New Zealand in 2015, French beauty chain Sephora is ready to commit to bricks and mortar.
It has confirmed its first Kiwi flagship will be on Auckland’s Queen St, and that the store will sport Sephora’s “iconic black and white striped calepinage, while staying true to the rich heritage of the building.”
Sephora is owned by global luxury goods group LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. It has more than 3,000 stores worldwide. New Zealand will be part of its Sephora Asia division, which operates in 12 countries.
Benjamin Vuchot, president of Sephora Asia says: “We believe that New Zealand will be a key market in building Sephora as the most loved beauty community in Asia, and the world. This expansion to a new market will allow Sephora to continue to amplify global beauty trends locally, elevate what our clients expect of the in-store experience and bring fresh, digital touch points to the retail environment to create a virtual, client-centric cycle.”

The Sephora client is the future – our customers are ahead of the trends, up to date with the latest brands and they want new products, now,” says Coutinho. “We’ve listened to what our online clients want from Sephora, and this new Auckland location will help us deliver it.”
In November 2015, Singapore-based cosmetics site Luxola NZ became Sephora NZ, changing its branding and expanding its product offering. This representedSephora’s first entry into the New Zealand market.
Competitor Mecca Maxima opened its first store in New Zealand later that year.
