Tauranga Crossing officially opens

The Bay of Plenty region has officially opened its newest shopping centre, Tauranga Crossing. The centre had been opening in stages over the last few months but has officially completed its construction and now offers a plethora of new eateries, retailers and entertainment.

Hundreds queued to be the first shoppers in the mall yesterday, with many retailers both local and international settling into their new Bay of Plenty dwelling.

CEO Steve Lewis acknowledge the huge moment this is for everyone who has been involved with the crossing.

“We are delighted to welcome our community into their new shopping mall. The feedback from everyone so far has been fantastic and we look forward to welcoming the wider community to the centre.”

“Tauranga Crossing now has over 100 stores, restaurants and eateries including H&M, Event Cinemas, Pak’nSave, The Warehouse, Farmers, and many more throughout the centre. The Observatory is our new restaurant precinct, which sits adjacent to Event Cinemas, and our garden. Our garden is a beautiful outdoor space for people to relax with family and friends, and includes play spaces for children, and our kinetic sculpture by Phil Price, called The Fernery”.

Centre manager, Andrew Wadsworth, added “Kiwis will not see this as just a mall, and they don’t just have to come here to go shopping.  This is a vibrant and relaxing place, where families and friends can just come and relax in any kind of weather’.

The opening was celebrated with several entertainment acts and a traditional Haka to mark the occasion. 

Retailers from around the country have been keeping an eye on the developments of the centre, as it is now set to house over 70 retailers of general merchandise, and service retailers along with 27 restaurants and eateries within the two-level mall galleria and dining area.

The popular buy one give one model of Eat My Lunch has officially opened its first retail store in Auckland’s downtown Britomart. The store maintains its charity initiative, supplying a Kiwi kid lunch with every $14 spent.
