Ecommerce means it’s now common to have even relatively small purchases individually shipped around the world from factory to retailer to customer; and even products sold in-store must still be transported there, wrapped in plastic.

So far, most of the reports on Amazon’s impending launch in Australia have been grim. Kiwi retailers are anticipating its possible arrival in New Zealand markets as if it’s the end of an era, but like many endings, it can also be viewed as a new beginning.
