Christchurch shines in the first of Retail NZ’s regional Top Shop Awards

Retailers from Christchurch have punched above their weight in the Upper South Island round of Retail NZ’s Top Shop Awards. The finalists were announced at a cocktail reception in Christchurch, and will be followed by finalists from other regions at events over the next few weeks.

Nine Christchurch stores and five individual staff members were selected as finalists. More than 600 entries were received nationwide for the 2017 Top Shop Awards, which celebrate excellence in Kiwi retail.

The finalists will go through to a national gala evening in Auckland on September 7, where the overall winners for each category will be announced.

"The Retail NZ Top Shop Awards are about celebrating retail success, recognising those retail businesses that excel in creating an amazing customer experience, and lifting the standards of retail in New Zealand," Retail NZ's general manager for public affairs, Greg Harford says.  "The Upper South Island is full of retail talent, and it's particularly exciting that, in the Upper South Island region, five individuals have been selected to represent the region and compete for the national title of Up & Coming Retailer.  

"Christchurch stores selected as finalists include McKenzie & Willis; Renaissance, the Art of Beauty; Streeter & Turner Travel Associates; Corcovado; Hair Art and Beauty; Kidd's Cakes & Bakery; KILT Christchurch; The Christmas Hut; and Wallace Cotton Merivale.
