The Botany Town Centre shopping centre in West Auckland wants to encourage shoppers to remember those without the means to update their winter wardrobes through a 'clothing swap' partnership with the Salvation Army.
The centre will hold a giant clothing swap event on Saturday 8 July from 11am-2pm. The swap will be run via tokens – shoppers are encouraged to bring a bag of good-quality unwanted clothing in exchange for tokens, which they can exchange for new-to-them items brought in by others.
All proceeds from the swap, plus all the unclaimed clothing items, will be donated to the Salvation Army. The charitable organisation supports more than 120,000 families per year with budgeting, food and clothing assistance.
The giant clothing swap is the last of five days of fashion-focused events run at the centre, which has emphasised community involvement across a wide range of activations this year.
The events are:
Retail Therapy Monday (3 July, 12.30pm): with medical doctor Dr Frances Pitsilis.
Hair Styling Session Tuesday (4 July, 11.am): Schnips Phd hairdressers.
Style Workshop Wednesday (5 July, 2pm): with stylist Kerry Finlay from Mirror Mirror;
Sculpt & Shade Thursday (6 July, 11am): with MAC Cosmetics;
Stop, Swap and Shop Saturday (8 July, 11am): with Salvation Army and Botany Town Centre retailers.
