Cotton On's Mark Singleton talks click-and-collect, ethical fashion and expansion

On Among Equals - an urban street range focused at the Kiwi market:

"We’re always looking to our own backyards for inspiration and are incredibly excited and proud to have partnered with New Zealand-based creative consultant Dan Tupara on our urban streetwear range, Among Equals.

Founder of premium online sneaker store Sole Merchants, Dan lives and breathes the urban streetwear culture and has worked closely with Cotton On’s trend and design teams as a consultant to the range to make sure it’s authentic to the values of our target customer.

We have trialled the range in select Cotton On stores across New Zealand and it has performed really well. We’ve also presented it to our other markets during range review and the feedback has been really positive so we are confident it will do incredibly well in these regions also.

The range will be launching in 12 of our 18 international markets including New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and the United States from October this year."

On where Cotton On is at with click-and-collect:

"Since the launch of our dedicated ecommerce platform in November last year, the site has been performing really well, and we’re excited to announce that we will be the first country globally to trial click and collect which will be happening before Christmas.

The decision has come as a direct result of us listening to our customers and localising our approach to suit the New Zealand market." 

On Cotton On Kid and Cotton On Body's expansion:

"As one of our top performing brands in the market, Cotton On Kids will be opening its largest standalone store in the world at Sylvia Park Shopping Centre in Mount Wellington in October.

We are also excited to be rolling out a number of our new concept Cotton On Body stores in New Zealand.

The doors to our new Albany store in Auckland are set to open on 13th October following closely by Lambton Quay in Wellington on 4th November.

With subtle updates to fixtures and finishes, our aim is to deliver an elevated shopping experience for our customer, with a dedicated 'wellness' waiting area at the fitting rooms, interactive fitting room design, key category destinations throughout the store and an updated cafe-inspired counter design."

On why the company recently published part of its supplier list

"As a business, we have a commitment to ethically sourced and produced products, and have a number of ethical guidelines and initiatives in place to ensure workers are treated fairly and given the opportunity to flourish.

While we’re incredibly proud of the work we have done with our supply chain, our current goal is end-to-end mapping of all suppliers and materials used in our products, including raw materials. As we work towards full transparency, we have started to publically disclose the details of our suppliers with the goal of 100 per cent public disclosure across all stages of production by the end of 2018.

The sourcing of ethically grown cotton is also incredibly important to us and we have recently become a member of the Better Cotton Initiative in addition to funding a sustainable cotton project in Kenya.

As a family-run business, we are also incredibly passionate about supporting the communities we rely on within our supply chain and have established the Bangladesh Mobile Health Clinic which to date has offered free healthcare to 25,000 factory workers and their families."
