The heart ties in with Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki’s South American exhibition, ‘Space to Dream’. It was created by third-year students from AUT’s Communication Design and Advertising course – several teams competed for the opportunity.
The winning team was: Megan Au, Christie Higgins, Maria Rutherford, Hannah Sames and Stephanie Zwerink. The AUT staff involved were Dr. Alan Young and Dr. Johnson Witehira.
Young says the team’s creation was inspired by the 2012 artwork ‘Chaco’ by Joaquín Sánchez, pictured below.
“[It] is quite spectacular, especially in the evening light.”
The display will be public until Wednesday 20 July.
AUT students also unleashed their creativity onto shop windows in Newmarket back in May, when 13 groups competed to create the most exciting window. The competition was run in partnership with the Newmarket Business Association and Spaceworks. The winning student, Ashleigh Burrell, won a a two-week internship at London’s Selfridges department store.
