Hair Products Online sells international brands of hair products online and through a store in Christchurch. The company has four staff, and is a family business which has been operating in a bricks and mortar capacity since 1976.
Product sales operate differently between the bricks and mortar and online stores, with the real-world shop operating on a loyalty card system rather than what Collins calls “everyday discounts”. The website can also offer a much greater variety of stock.
Collins says Hair Products Online has an edge over both international ecommerce competitors and other hair product retailers at home because it can offer low prices and fast shipping.
“Definitely everything is better priced, and its gets to their door so quick.”
As the products are dispatched from New Zealand, Hair Products Online can get purchases to its customers within one to three days.
Collins says having a staff member who knew about social media was key to building up a passionate fan base, “rather than just being online and not having any interaction”. This fan base helped Hair Products Online by voting for them in the People's Choice awards. The award is sponsored by The Hits.
