Fast food chain Wendy’s is looking for a new owner

The popular fast-food chain Wendy’s is up for sale after 34 years of being owned by a New Zealand family.

Wendy’s is now in the market for the first time in 34 years after the owners, Danny and Dianne Lendich, say it is the “right time for change” as they head into their seventies.

The entire Wendy’s New Zealand franchise of 22 restaurants, with 12 in Auckland, eight across the North Island and two in the South Island, is up for sale. The franchise is part of a global franchise of the “iconic American burger”.

Danielle Lendich, the owners’ daughter and CEO of Wendy’s NZ, says the business is “performing extremely well and is ready for growth” after heading the fast-food chain for 23 years.

“Operations are strong across the country and we’re experiencing record sales. Even during the worst of Covid, there has been a huge demand. Obviously there have been challenges, but it’s a testament to the team that we’ve been able to get through the disruption and emerge even stronger,” she says.

Not only is the fast-food chain doing well on local shores, but also globally, having recently opened more than 90 new restaurants in the first quarter of 2022. This includes Wendy’s re-entering the United Kingdom.

“We hope the new franchisee will operate with the same core values and look after not just the business, but the wider Wendy’s family,” says Lendich.

The franchise is looking for a new owner that will be able to help accelerate and grow the business across the country.

Lendich says that along with the purchase of the franchise, it will also include the “deeply rooted” relationships with suppliers and staff who have been working with Wendy’s for decades.

The sale of the franchise is being handled by Spencers Chartered Accountants & Advisers in New Zealand and Azure for international queries.

In the time being while Wendy’s is up for sale, the business continues to operate as normal.
