What Wellington’s Alert Level 2 means for Retailers

Although Wellington has been put under Alert Level 2, retail stores can remain open and must maintain distancing in store.

Wellington will move to Alert Level 2 at 6:00pm tonight and will be in place until 11:59pm on Sunday 27 June. The area includes Wairarapa and Kapiti Coast.

Retail NZ recommends that all retailers have the official COVID-19 Tracer App QR Code on display for customers and staff. For more information on Alert Level 2 please see here.

Chief Executive Greg Harford says says Retail NZ know that Alert Level 2 has an economic impact on retailers.

“That’s why we are encouraging Wellingtonians to support their local retailers at this time.

“We will continue to remind the wellington region that measures are in place to ensure customers and retail staff are safe – to use QR codes on display at retailers, shop locally, and utilise click and collect options.”

Retail NZ says the Wellington region must take the current precautions put in place for Alert Level 2 seriously and remain compliant – so the retail sector is not significantly impacted further.
