New Pinterest campaign supports female-owned businesses

Throughout the month of March, Pinterest will feature an International Women’s Day edition of the Pinterest shop with exclusively female-owned small businesses from around the world.

The virtual shopping window initiative will allow 25 entrepreneurs to reach global consumers, and will also feature daily female empowerment inspiration on the Today tab and home feed.

In addition to supporting working women whose businesses were affected by Covid-19, the platform has set up an International Women’s Day fund and will match donations from employees to non-profits like the National Domestic Workers Alliance and the Global Fund for Women.

Pinterest head of content and creator partnerships, Aya Kanai says working women were impacted the most by the changes that occurred in 2020.

“We launched the International Women’s Day Shop to support and show our commitment to small businesses.

“Pinterest has always been the place to be inspired and discover new brands. We are thrilled to give these women-run businesses a platform to shine.”

Pinterest’s female audience increasingly turns to the platform to find ideas to “start a business from home” (4x), develop new skills sets such as “small business accounting” (3x) or to look for empowering inspiration from female role models thanks to “female entrepreneur quotes” (3x).
