The partnership encourages Hush Puppies customers to turn their empty shoeboxes into toiletry boxes and fill them with necessities like deodorant, shampoo and soap. Customers can send the boxes themselves or drop them off at a Hush Puppies store to be posted.
Hush Puppies marketing manager, Jamie Kouktzelas, says although they are an American heritage brand, Hush Puppies has been selling in Australia for more than sixty years, which is why it is so important to give back to the community.
“We fell in love with the Happy Boxes Project values and how they align to our Hush Puppies values,” she says, “we also love that we are giving our Hush Puppies shoe boxes another purpose so they don’t just end up in landfill.”
Alongside sending out toiletry boxes, Hush Puppies has also donated 200 pairs of shoes to the same remote communities. To raise awareness and communicate the programme to customers, information flyers are sent out with every online and in-store purchase.
Kouktzelas says the brand hasn’t set any targets, however the initiative will be ongoing and they would love to contribute as many boxes as possible.
“We often highlight the initiative on our social media and in our emails and you can find more information on all our causes and alignments in the Community page of our website.”
