Countdown’s second smallest store opens in Wynyard Quarter

Just in time for the America’s cup, Countdown has unveiled the second of its metro stores in Auckland’s bustling Wynyard Quarter.

The 650m2 store is located on the corner of Halsey and Pakenham streets and has been specifically designed to pack more than 4500 products which have been tailored to local workers, commuters and the growing residential population nearby.

“Supermarkets became an even more integral part of people’s lives in 2020, and on this side of the inner city there’s been a notable lack of choice for people,” says Countdown’s acting general manager property, Matt Grainger.

Heart of the City chief executive, Viv Beck, agrees that the store will be a great addition to the Wynyard area.

“It’s exciting to see the ongoing regeneration of this part of the city centre, it really is a fabulous destination.  We warmly welcome Countdown to the area with a new offer tailored to the growing and diverse market.”

Already proving to be a busy summer on the waterfront, the upcoming America’s Cup will make the area an even more exciting place to be in the months ahead.

Countdown’s other metro stores include the Albert Street supermarket, which has been open since December 2019, and a third metro store, which is set to open on Herne Bay’s Jervois Road later this year.
