The best Christmas window displays from around the world

With Christmas only nine days away, we thought it would be more than appropriate to round up the best Christmas window displays from across the globe.

From New York to Paris, several retailers have gone above and beyond to transform their store into a truly mesmerising wonderland and we’re here for it!

Kiwi retailers take note: these displays could potentially provide some last minute inspiration.

Saks Fifth Avenue – NYC

The city that never sleeps (NYC), boasts a vast selection of shopping departments, many of which who have taken Christmas decor to the next level. One retailer that has truly shone (no pun intended) is Saks Fifth Avenue and its dazzling display of lights. Themed ‘This is how we celebrate’, the display tells stories of togetherness and moments in Manhattan, with an arrangement of lights that rise up all 10 stories of the building.

The unveiling of the display was through a livestream, broken up night by night and revealed by celebrity hosts who each picked their own charity to spotlight.

Selfridges – London

For 2020, Selfridges has chosen simplicity, as its research showed eight out of 10 brits are wishing for a normal Christmas following Covid-19.

Although we can appreciate the 2020 display and its meaning, we had to make room to praise Selfridges 2019 masterpiece. Taking inspiration from several fairytales, last year the department store transformed its 13 windows into stories using a white and silver colour palette complimented by neon accents.

With the theme ‘Future Fantasy: A Christmas for modern times’, passers-by saw displays of Cinderella, The Princess and the Pea, Jack and the Bean Stalk and many more childhood favourites.

Dior – Paris

It wouldn’t be a round up without at least one designer store and this one’s display would undoubtedly stop you in your tracks. In the city of love, the Dior boutique of Rue Royale not only has decorative store windows but a stunning bauble-designed light projected across the store’s front exterior. In terms of colour, the display mainly consists of gold, but would we expect anything less from Dior?

Brown Thomas – Dublin

Brown Thomas is renowned for its celebrations of Christmas and always going beyond what one would think is possible for a retailer. Priding themselves on creating magic, this year the team set out to evoke the glitz and glam of the golden age of cinema. Think classic Hollywood film, costumes, feathers and lights galore. Each of the store’s eight windows has something to gaze upon.
