Sweet dreams are made of cheese, and after a long wait, the world’s first cheese advent calendar has landed on NZ shores following a brie-lliant response in the UK.
Forget your typical chocolate calendar that often tastes like cardboard and ends up getting devoured entirely on December 1, because now you can indulge in 24 days of cheesey goodness that is so tasty you will want to save each piece for an end of the day treat.
Created in 2016, by UK food blogger Annem Hobson, the calendar was initially an idea showcased on her blog. The cheese alternative soon sparked a global frenzy, with Hobson’s idea going viral and a global demand to follow.
Every day of the calendar, cheese-lovers can enjoy 20g of a variety of UK cheeses, many in which Kiwis may have never tried. The list of cheeses include, Applewood Smoked Flavoured Cheddar Cheese; Applewood Vintage Smoked Flavoured Cheddar Cheese; Mexicana Cheddar Cheese with Mixed Peppers; Ilchester Mature Cheddar Cheese; Ilchester Vintage Cheddar Cheese; Ilchester Red Leicester Cheese; Ilchester Aged Red Leicester Cheese; Ilchester Double Gloucester Cheese; Ilchester Derby Cheese with Sage.
Not to worry, this calendar isn’t going to end up smelling like a sock, all 24 pieces of cheese are encased in fridge-door friendly packaging with cheesy jokes behind each of them. Perfect for having fun with the family, this cheese adaption of the traditional chocolate advent calendar is exactly what New Zealand needs this festive season.
The festive treat can be found at Countdown, New World and PaknSave supermarkets nationwide.
