Mitre 10 encourages sustainability by partnering with Trees that Count

Dedicated to looking after New Zealand’s flora and fauna, Mitre10 has partnered with Trees That Count to plant tens of thousands of native trees throughout New Zealand.

To combat climate change and protect landscapes, waterways, and forests, planting native trees is the way to go. With that in mind, Mitre 10 is donating 5 cents to Trees That Count for every native plant or bag of Tui growing mix Mitre 10 customers buy, both online and in-store.

Connecting tree funders and tree planters around the country, Trees That Count has helped plant more than 32,000 trees in New Zealand since 2016. Planting native trees will have a long lasting effect for enhancing biodiversity, providing habitats for wildlife and protecting landscapes, as well as reducing tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Mitre 10’s chief of customer marketing and inspiration, Jules Lloyd-Jones, says the partnership will assist with practical support for environmental restoration projects and will help reach Trees That Count’s goal of planting 200 million trees.

“As well as funding thousands of trees, Mitre 10 volunteers will plant natives and clear invasive weeds with trusts and restoration groups in their local areas,” says Jones.

“There’s something special about New Zealand’s native bush and we must protect it for our children and grandchildren. We’re pleased to be contributing to a sustainable future for our people and our communities.”
