Unity Books shortlisted for London Book Fair’s International Excellence Awards

New Zealand indie bookstore Unity Books is one of three bookstores in the world shortlisted for the London Book Fair’s Bookstore of the Year Award. It was also a finalist in 2019.

Unity has one store in Wellington and one in Auckland. In the London Book Fair (LBF) International Excellence Awards 2020, it’s up against Yemen Bookstore from the Middle East and Estonia’s Rahava Raamat AS for Bookstore of the Year, sponsored by Gardners.

New Zealand independent children’s book publisher Gecko Press also appears on LBF International Excellence Awards list of finalists, having been shortlisted for the Literary Translation Initiative Award.

LBF director Jacks Thomas noted that the awards received entries from 29 countries this year.

“The awards capture the passion that underpins the commitment of those working in this global village to share the power of books,” Thomas says. “The geographic range entering cements these awards as the pivotal event celebrating global excellence in the publishing industry. It’s wonderful to give all shortlistees the international platform at the Book Fair to showcase their success. We look forward to welcoming this great line-up in March and wish everyone the best of luck.”

Winners will be announced on March 10 in London.
