The Trusts CEO Simon Wickham has resigned

The Trusts, a shared services body operating parts of the Portage and Waitakere liquor licensing trusts, has announced chief executive Simon Wickham’s resignation.

Wickham has been in the role for nine years, and his resignation will take effect in the new year.

“Simon has resigned to pursue an opportunity outside of Auckland, which aligns with where his family wants to be based for the longer term. He has given tremendous service to the Trusts and to West Auckland over the last nine years and we would like to express our sincere thanks to him for his excellent leadership and commitment,” said Brian Corban, chair of West Auckland Trust Services Ltd, the shared services company that operates the retail, hospitality and shared services operations for the Portage and Waitakere Licensing Trusts.

“Simon has lead the business through a period of significant transformation and will be leaving the business in a strong position for the future. Some of his key achievements include implementing a significant transformation of our retail and hospitality businesses, establishing the investment strategy that will enable the Trusts to give back significantly more to West Auckland in future, and leading a major turnaround of our people and culture strategy which has resulted in a significant lift in employee engagement levels,” says Corban.

The board will commence a search for a replacement CEO and will canvass candidates from both within the Trusts and externally.

Liquor licensing trusts are community-owned body corporates controlling liquor sales which distribute surplus profits back into the community and are accountable to that community through the election of their trustees.

Portage and Waitakere are both based in West Auckland, and are two of the four liquor licensing trusts which retain their exclusivity rights. This means only they can operate hotels, taverns and off-licenses within their territory.

The Trusts’ off-license brands include West Liquor (20 stores) and Village Wine & Spirits (six stores).
