The enclosed mall at Tauranga Crossing officially opened its doors on 4 April 2019, launched with live music, entertainment and a large, excited crowd. The opening was an outstanding success. In the first month approximately 350,000 people visited the new mall, not including the existing external retail.
Steve Lewis, CEO of Tauranga Crossing, said: “It was a fantastic opening month for everyone at Tauranga Crossing and we’re delighted that the community has turned out in the masses to experience their new mall. The feedback from both the customers and the retailers has been overwhelmingly positive.
“We were always confident about the potential of the centre because it is the only enclosed mall on the western side of the harbour, where 76% of the main trade area live”, added Steve Lewis. “This is one of the reasons why so many high-quality retailers have chosen to open here.”
The offer becomes even more compelling when you experience the two-level entertainment and dining precinct, anchored by the only Event Cinemas VMAX complex in the region. This precinct is not like anything seen before in New Zealand and provides a great place for people to relax with family and friends, including play spaces for children.”
Carmen Switzer General Manager of Event Cinemas New Zealand said: “We are absolutely delighted how the opening of Event Cinemas Tauranga Crossing has gone and how the new cinema has been received by the people in the Bay of Plenty.
“Movie goers are loving the massive VMAX screen & Dolby Atmos sound system and being able to upgrade to our full recliners or luxury daybeds. It truly is Your Cinema Your Way! “We love being part of such a fantastic group of retailers that the Tauranga Crossing Mall has been able to attract.”
Fleur Carlton, CEO of Hawker & Roll, also said: “Being a part of the Tauranga Crossing expansion has been amazing — the centre has really gone above and beyond to offer a world class dining and shopping experience for visitors. The people of Tauranga are now spoiled for choice.
“Kiwis are becoming more and more adventurous with their dining choices which has opened the door for us to introduce Hawker & Roll’s take on Malaysian cuisine to New Zealand’s fastest growing region.
Tauranga has really embraced us from day one which we are grateful for.”
Tauranga Crossing now has over 100 stores, restaurants and eateries including H&M, Event Cinemas, Pak’nSave,The Warehouse, Farmers, and many more throughout the centre.
It is an established retail, entertainment and dining destination with 47,000 sqm of trading lettable area, a large portion of which has been trading since 2016, serviced by 1,800 free carparks.
On final completion of the shopping complex, which is expected in the next few years, the total lettable area at Tauranga Crossing is expected to be 70,000 sqm.
