After a successful debut last year, Karen Walker is bringing back its Dove Hospice pop-up at the Newmarket ‘Playpark’ store. It will once again sell vintage hand-knitted items to fundraise for the hospice charity. The pop-up will run from 29-31 May or while stock lasts.
The first pop-up was inspired by a 2016 visit Walker made to the Remuera Dove Hospice Shop, when she donated bags of clothes following the death of her mother. She was so touched by the experience that she wanted to help raise awareness of the charity.
Walker and the team at Dove Hospice Shops have combed through other donations to the charity to present “an eclectic array of quality hand knitted wool sweaters, cardigans, vests and accessories for adults and children.” Neighbouring business Regal Drycleaners has donated its services and dry-cleaned the items. The knits will retail for $80 (adults), $35 (children) and $20 (accessories) and all the money raised from sales will go to Dove Hospice.Julie Sexton, the executive director of Dove Hospice says, “We are thrilled to be partnering with Karen Walker and her team for the second year of this fantastic eco-fashion initiative. The donated hand knits symbolise the warmth, love and care that we aim to provide to patients and their families in their times of need.”
