The first stage of Scentre Group’s $790 million redevelopment of Westfield Newmarket could open as soon as July. Scentre has said it will open in multiple stages from the second half of this year, and construction will be complete by Christmas.
Scentre Group’s chief operating officer Greg Miles says the development is on track.
“From the second half of this year, we will unveil the new Westfield Newmarket in a number of stages with construction to be complete by Christmas.
“Retailer interest is incredibly strong across all categories and, as you can see from the impressive line-up of local and international brand partners we’ve got on board, leasing is well progressed.”
The first opening will include the new-format Farmers, Australian new market entry Coco Republic and its in-store café L’Americano, and “a mix of international and local brands”.
Coco Republic will occupy a 1,000sqm street-front location at Westfield Newmarket. It represents the brand’s first expansion outside Australia and the first in Scentre Group’s Westfield portfolio.
Another first-to-market tenant announced for Westfield Newmarket is Archie Brothers Cirque Electriq, an Australian entertainment arcade-style offering.
Local retailers confirmed for Westfield Newmarket include Rebel Sport, Torpedo 7, Kathmandu and Noel Leeming. More than 200 retail stores are planned for the five-level site.
