Mitre 10 customers can now spend Air New Zealand Airpoints Dollars instore nationwide and online. The collaboration comes after a trial period in Auckland proved the alternate form of payment could work.
The initiative allows customers to spend Airpoints Dollars on part of or the entirety of purchases $75 and over, not including gift cards.
The partnership is the first time that the 2.9 million members of the Air New Zealand Airpoints loyalty programme have been able to spend their earnings instore.
Mitre 10 general manager marketing Jules Lloyd-Jones said the retailer, which has allowed customers to earn Airpoints Dollars for years, was excited to pave the way for a new payment choice.
“We are chuffed to be the first New Zealand retailer to welcome Kiwis to spend [Airpoints Dollars] with us.
“We are continually investing to enhance our customer experience, especially as shoppers increasingly look for more personalised and diverse ways of purchasing the things they love.”
The concept was successfully trialled at Mitre 10s in Browns Bay and Whangaparaoa, and Mitre 10 Megas in Albany, Glenfield and Warkworth.
Mitre 10 customers receive one Airpoints Dollar per $115 spent when they swipe their card at checkout.
