Auckland retail precincts move closer towards opening

Commercial Bay and Westfield Newmarket are two of Auckland’s biggest commercial developments. Both areas are seeing progress as they move towards their highly anticipated respective openings.

Commercial Bay, located downtown Auckland, is set to be the biggest transformational change for the area. With early retail opening in August 2018 and the remaining retail and PwC Tower opening in 2019.

The first lot of retailers who will be filling spaces in the area are the first-to-market Furla and Herschel Supply Co as well as local favourites Superette and Rodd & Gunn. The area will also include Auckland’s second H&M with its fist Home concept store.

The three-level retail precinct is set to release more names to be joining the area but at the moment is on track to open highly anticipated key retail tenancy H&M next month. 

As for Westfield Newmarket, the redevelopment is set to rejuvenate the area, replacing the old 277 and Farmers building.

The $790 million redevelopment is also on track for its late 2019 opening and now the precinct is calling for potential tenants to be apart of Scentre Groups largest project.

Incorporating multiple sites over four and a half hectares, the Broadway site will be home to Auckland’s first David Jones department store, a new-format Farmers department store, Countdown supermarket, Event Cinemas and more than 230 new specialty stores.

Upon completion, over 33 Olympic-sized swimming pools worth of excavation will have been removed to make way for 190,000 square metres of floor space accommodating retail, dining and entertainment offerings and 2,770 new car parking spaces.

When it is done, the Westfield Newmarket will be the flagship centre in New Zealand.
