Caterpillar construction debuts rugged smartphones

Made for the construction moguls and well suited to those accident prone, Caterpillar construction has debuted its newest range of rugged smartphones.

Harsh conditions, countless hazards and physically demanding work, tradespeople are pretty tough kids who need a phone that can keep up.

Enter, Caterpillar’s ‘Rugged’ smartphone. As the world’s leading manufacturers in construction and mining equipment, Caterpillar is an expert in equipment that lasts, and their new range of smartphones are no different. The CAT S60, which has been rolled out in selected Spark stores earlier this month, will bring New Zealander’s the world’s first smartphone that has integrated thermal imaging as well as being the most waterproof smartphone on the market.

With features that can detect heat loss around windows, spot areas of missing insulation and identify overheated electrical appliances, the phone is an all-in-one device for anyone in the trade industry. While it’s dust-proof, drop-proof, crack-proof, practically-everything-proof body makes it perfect for us Kiwis who love the unpredictable outdoors.

“New Zealanders have a strong affinity towards adventure and the outdoors, some because of their employment and others down to their hobbies, and our smartphones offer the durability to support this lifestyle,” said Peter Stephens, the CEO at Bullitt Group. The international mobile phone and consumer electronics company have aligned with Caterpillar for their range of Catphone products.

Built to survive, the S60 carries a US Military SPEC 810G certification and if, like me, you don’t know what that exactly means, it will sound super impressive to your fellow tradie friends. Not only will it’s supercharged battery give you 44 days of standby power, it’s battery share functionality will allow you to charge your mates phone when it inevitably dies just hours after charging it.

The S60 is now available online through JB Hi-Fi and Noel Leeming as well as in selected Spark stores, JA Russell and Cat Gough dealerships and via PB Tech to the sweet tune of $1,099.
