Amazon.com.au launched in December 2017 to the heaviest opening day traffic in Amazon history. From the start of its launch, Kiwi retailers speculated as to whether it would change purchasing patterns. There was also much talk about the cost of its shipping to New Zealand.

The Register team has been investigating whether shipping is actually provided to New Zealand after unsuccessfully experimenting with shopping on the site.

rnMost listed items on Amazon Australia bear a note saying they don’t ship to New Zealand. Those that don’t trigger a similar note at the final stage of checkout. This includes items made by Kiwi companies like Trilogy and Kathmandu.

Amazon hasn’t responded to our inquiries on the subject, but today confirmed through Kiwi retail inventory management company Ant HQ that currently, shipping to New Zealand is not an option via the Australian website. Sellers from New Zealand can ship their items into Australia.

Amazon is reportedly working on introducing shipping to New Zealand from Australia but has not released a timeline on when this can be expected.

The company still offers shipping to New Zealand through its main site, Amazon.com. Shipping fees vary by item type but tend to start around the $20 mark.
