Mastercard New Zealand appoints new head Ruth Riviere

Mastercard has appointed Ruth Riviere as its new country manager for New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, replacing Peter Chisnall.

Mastercard has appointed Ruth Riviere as its new country manager for New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, replacing Peter Chisnall.

Riviere has been with Mastercard since 2012, coming from a financial services and innovation consulting background. She has had various roles across Mastercard’s UK business, including driving digital sales and managing strategy and operations as the chief of staff for the president of international markets, Ann Cairns.

“I’m looking forward to bringing my global experience to New Zealand and the Pacific Islands to deliver some of the best solutions for both businesses and consumers,” says Riviere. “Financial inclusion to drive sustainable economic growth is a huge passion, so I’m excited for the opportunity to represent the Pacific Islands as well as New Zealand.”

Now is a great time to be working in payments, Riviere says, because consumer expectation, innovation and new players are driving significant change. She is interested to see what fintech developments and digital disruption will mean for new Zealand, saying it’s great to be in a market made up of early-adopting Kiwis.

“New Zealand has some fantastic opportunities for Mastercard and I look forward to building on the excellent work Peter Chisnall and the team have done in the past few years.”

Chisnall has remained with Mastercard, moving on to a new role as senior vice president, market development for South East Asia.
