The Westpac New Zealand Franchise awards roughly coincided with the one-year anniversary of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake which rattled retailers in Kaikoura in 2016. At the Auckland ceremony, which honours achievement in franchised businesses, board chair Brad Jacobs acknowledged the tough journey of Kaikoura retailers in returning to profitability.
On the first anniversary of the Kaikoura earthquake, Jacobs says, it’s important to take the opportunity to celebrate business highlights and prove that people in the provinces are “a lot tougher than people who live in Auckland”.
“Tonight on this night of nights, it’s time to put competition aside, and recognise and celebrate each other.”
Jacobs says franchise businesses are a significant part of the New Zealand economy, with more than 35,000 franchise businesses representing more than 600 brands part of the Kiwi business landscape. Franchises make up more than 11 percent of New Zealand’s GDP.
The supreme winner at the Westpac New Zealand Franchise awards 2017 was Just Cabins and Just Cabins Waipa, Otorohanga and King Country.
