Another apparel retailer down: Kimberlys is in receivership

Nine-store womenswear retailer Kimberlys has a long history in New Zealand town centres as a stockist of local labels and later, knitwear manufacturing, but it’s been placed into receivership this month. The stores will continue to trade while the receivers work to assess Kimberlys’ options.

Receivers Colin Gower and Andrew Grace of BDO Christchurch were appointed receivers of Kimberlys Fashions Limited, trading as Kimberlys, on October 2. They have taken control of the business and its assets.

The company has stores in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Nelson and Dunedin, and sells a range of international labels plus its in-house brands: Episode, Marilyn Seyb, Marilyn Seyb Jeune and Marilyn Seyb Glamour.

It’s been manufacturing its own knitwear since co- owners Marilyn and John McLaughlan initiated the change in 1983.

Any parties interested in Kimberlys and its assets are invited to contact the receivers urgently.
