Dolce&Gabbana and Smeg have joined creative forces to create Sicily is my Love, a truly Made in Italy project where experts from the worlds of high fashion and design meet and merge to create unique domestic appliances that uncover an Italian story.
The collaboration comes after last year’s success of the 100 hand painted refrigerators from the two designers. Last year in April the Italian fashion brand designed a limited edition hand-painted refrigerator for Smeg, priced at about NZ$48500.
This year the two are focusing on smaller products such as toasters, citrus juicers, coffee machines, kettles, blenders, stand mixers and slow juicers.
The products are decorated with Italian inspired print which includes triangular motifs known as crocchi, paired with delicate floral motifs and other Italian themed iconic prints.
All these themes and decorative symbols are intrinsically tied to Sicily and the important aspects of the aesthetic of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
A brand that well represents Italy is bound to show its expertise when involved with food, Italian heritage is proudly based on making things both delicious and beautiful.
The ‘functional art’ will presumably have price points that match the size of its brand name.
The range is not yet available anywhere in the world, but is expected to be on sale in Italy from December.
