The Crossing Christchurch gets yet another international retailer as Swedish fashion house, H&M, opens its first South Island store.

As one of the world’s largest fashion retailers, H&M rightfully had over 1,000 shoppers awaiting the opening on Saturday with some even queening outside the night before.

The 2,500 square-metre store spanning low levels includes all the H&M range as well as being the first H&M store in New Zealand to offer the H&M Home concept.

H&M’s Australia and New Zealand Country Manager, Hans Andersson and team cut the ribbon and officially welcomed the first eager shoppers through the door at 10.00am.

“We are incredibly excited to be able to open the doors to the first H&M store in the South Island and the response from the Christchurch public has been incredible. This is the first H&M store in New Zealand to feature our Home concept and the response to the collection has already been overwhelmingly positive.

“We are pleased to be able to offer our customers added value through fashion, quality and sustainability at the best price and it is wonderful to see so many happy, enthusiastic customers turn out to help us celebrate,” said Hans.

H&M’s first New Zealand store was Auckland in 2016, the opening drew in more than shoppers as protestors arrived to fight against ‘fast fashion’ chains like H&M.

As its first South Island store, H&M opens alongside other new international retailers such as Seed Heritage and Country Road.
