Kiwi Property’s general manager retail portfolio Karl Retief has resigned. He is to step down in September this year, having been with the company since 2000.

Retailers involved with any of Kiwi Property’s nine shopping centres – among them is Sylvia Park, LynnMall, The Plaza and Northlands – will be familiar with Retief, who is responsible for all strategic and operational aspects of the company’s retail portfolio, including overall leasing, design, operations and marketing. He has previously held senior retail roles with Farmers/Deka, Sportsgirl NZ and Truworths, and was chairman of the New Zealand Council of Shopping Centres between 2011 and 2014. Since 2012 he has been a member of the ICSC Asia Pacific Advisory Board.

“Karl has made a very significant contribution to Kiwi Property during his 17 years with the business,” says chief executive Chris Gudgeon. “Over a period of significant growth, Karl has helped forge what is today a high-quality, experienced and committed retail team focused on creating exceptional experiences for our customers and tenants.”

The search for Retief’s replacement is soon to begin. Both internal and external candidates will be considered for the role.
