The Warehouse drive towards growth

The Warehouse Group have taken a stride, or drive, towards the brands future with the testing of its electric car two-hour delivery service.

The retailer’s main objective is to provide Auckland customers with quick delivery for a selected range of products across its various brands.

Chief information and digital officer, Timothy Kasbe, says through data science this service will meet the needs of those who require goods urgently.

 “We are continually striving to introduce technology that makes our customers’ lives easier and based on data, we believe an urgent delivery service will meet an increasing need,” said Kasbe.

 “We are proud that the service has taken the environment into account by utilising a Nissan E-NV200 electric van.  This aligns with The Warehouse Group’s pledge to have 30 percent of its vehicle fleet electric by end of 2019,” said Kasbe.

Like most electric cars, The Warehouse delivery vehicle can run for 110km before it needs to be charged.

The trial so far has been running for two weeks and has been choosing online delivery customers at random to trial on.

“For now, we are looking at Auckland but as we learn more about customer needs we will continue to explore opportunities to provide the service in other cities,” said Kasbe.

The Warehouse group have seen a lot of growth already in 2017, with the purchase of a larger Newmarket locations, and the sell date of their current Newmarket location approaching fast in July.

In April, last year, Warehouse Group revealed its plans for a huge mix-use site which will also be based in Newmarket.

Profits fell for The Warehouse in the second quarter of this year, but was put down to the restructure effort of their business model.

Data stored from The Warehouse customers showed an apparent need for quick delivery to select people.

The price of the two-hour service will differ from normal, but prices are yet to be confirmed. Tracking capabilities are also being considered as part of the trial.
