Big Save Furniture has stopped shouting

Just when you thought Big Save Furniture ads were here to stay, the company has done a complete 180 with its newest advertising campaign.

Big Save Furniture is famous for its in-your-face screaming adverts; the company even took away Fair Go’s award for worst ad of the year in 2016.

It has been described as the worst ad on television, with director Lily Salter poking her head out from two mattresses and shouting a range of sales and opportunities you’d be stupid (read: smart) to ignore.

If you’re lucky and can’t remember let us jog your memory.

Despite being national recognised as being terrible, according to Salter, Big Save’s mattresses practically flew out of the store. Bed sales leapt 11 percent after the ads – not bad for a company that sells thousands of beds every week.

But just when we had begun to accept the Big Save’s ads were working, they have done a complete 180 with their marketing strategy.

Big Saves new ads are peaceful, filled with slow wistful music and surprisingly – no yelling.

The adds show a teenager loading a mattress on to his car, horses running majestically along a sunset beach alongside a tractor (no idea what that must do with furniture) and designer urban roads with bedroom interiors to match.

Salter still features in the ad, only this time she is sitting passively on a couch gazing at her iPad. Cue some docile-sounding sentence about a sale, with a look at some furniture and a 30 months’ interest-free* banner.

The ad now resembles something more akin to a life insurance advertisement rather than the over the top Big Save advertisements we’ve grown to love (read: accept).

So far three versions of the ad have been put on Youtube, pulling in around 38,000 views combined. However, the original ads have been viewed only 18,000 times.

We’re not sure what Big Save has in mind with their newest advertising campaign, and although it is hard to see Salter doing anything besides yelling or crushing buildings as a giant lady, I can’t see the advertisements winning worst ad anytime soon.
