New Zealand menswear brand, Rodd & Gunn, is opening its second flagship store in New York after the success which followed the opening of its California store last year.

New Zealand menswear brand, Rodd & Gunn, is opening its second flagship store in New York after the success which followed the opening of its California store last year.

The popular brand has seen a healthy rise in profitability after opening its first US store last October. Since then, the company has decided to venture into America’s business capital; New York. 

Rodd & Gunn has been a trusted New Zealand brand and a favourite among consumers since its opening in 1987.

The chain is expected to open 8-10 more stores in the US by the end of 2018, included one located on the West Coast by mid-2017.

Mike Beagley, managing director for Rodd & Gunn, says the move to New York was not one they considered, to begin with, but jumped at the opportunity when a space was presented.

“It is an amazing building in an iconic location that we believe is an emerging retail and lifestyle area of Brooklyn – incredibly high average household income and literally a stone’s throw from Wall Street.”

The building in question is a 297-square metre classic heritage building located in Dumbo, Brooklyn’s fastest growing suburb.

Original polished cement floors and high exposed ceilings juxtapose well with Rodd and Gunn’s signature high class yet durable lodge designs.

Beagley says their first store was embraced by the Newport community and the store is thriving in the California location.

“Trade is going extremely well and we are selling all of our categories, from hand made in New Zealand luggage, to outerwear and footwear.”

Beagley also mentions that the company is taking their growth within the US “relatively slowly” and that they’re “going to be selective in what we do.”

The new store offers the Rodd & Gunn full selection which includes both their premium and classic products. The new store is a new exciting beginning for the New Zealand brand who is making headway as it grows its name further into the US market.
