A strong earthquake was widely felt as far north as Auckland after it hit North Canterbury just after midnight on Monday morning. It caused two deaths, knocked out power in Blenheim, parts of Nelson and Lower Hutt, extensively damaged roading in the South Island and wreaked havoc throughout shops in the South Island and lower North Island.rn
Wellingtonians were told not to venture into the central city this morning. This is probably just as well, as many Wellington retailers were obliged to spend the day cleaning up smashed and scattered stock. Many retailers posted safety advice and best wishes on social media – others shared shots of the damage.
Mannequins and window displays across the country were in bad shape this morning.
Nelson and other areas in the top of the South Island saw some serious shaking.
However, there’s good news for those urgently needing a doorknob…
My lovely landlord, owner of Handles, Knockers and Knobs, is open for business for all your knocker needs.
