Retailers shine as finalists in Best Workplace Awards 2016

The finalists for the 2016 IBM Best Workplaces Survey have been announced, and retailers lead the charge in several of the categories. The Warehouse, Naveya and Sloane and Overland Footwear are among the finalists recognised in New Zealand’s largest study of workplace and employee engagement.

Over 36,000 employees from 210 New Zealand companies in the private and public sector were a part of IBM Kenexa’s annual survey.

The categories were ranked by size: Small, small-medium, medium-large, large and enterprise.

The 2016 results found in terms of participants from last year, employees are saying teamwork is more effective, and perceptions of rewards and recognition have also increased.

Most agree that their workplace is awarding outstanding performance and that pay and benefits are fair.

Senior consultant at IBM Kenexa New Zealand Emma Martin says the best employers are recognising their people in a variety of ways, which makes good business sense in a tight labour market.

Employees also said their workplaces are focusing on improving their culture as a result of the survey.

Figuring out the survey data also provides business leaders with key insights about their employees, IBM said.

The insights identify the strengths and weaknesses of a workplace, and give an idea of what is needed to retain critical talent.

The winners of the survey will be announced at an awards dinner on 3 November in Auckland.
