From ice-skating rinks to winter wellness workshops to Lego play spaces, malls around the country are coming up with some pretty cute winter promos to entice shoppers out their doors.

Long gone are the days when shopping at the mall was simply about purchasing – they have become social areas, and the winter campaigns this year are no exception.

NorthWest Shopping Centre in Massey, Auckland is going with a winter wonderland theme. It is setting up its first ice-skating rink these July school holidays, free to its patrons, and with all equipment provided.

Meanwhile it will continue with its Toddler Tuesdays with free entertainment for the smalls.

Across town at the Botany Town Centre, a week of free winter wellness workshops where each day is dedicated to a theme kicks off on Monday.

Workshop hosts includes fitness expert Makaia Carr, who knows that ambitious goals can be difficult to maintain in winter, and will offer alternatives to exercise routine.

The raw food craze can appear daunting for some, but on Saturday, Olivia Scott from The Raw Kitchen will conduct a live demonstration of one of her raw recipes for guests to try.

Meanwhile, at Hamilton’s The Base, kids will be entertained with an Ice Age collision course interactive zone and Lego play centre featuring a number of challenges to bring out children’s imagination and problem-solving skills.

The Kiwi Family Trust is running a free kids knitting workshop at The Palms in Christchurch.
