H&M lifts the lid on its first Kiwi store

Fast-fashion lovers have been waiting with bated breath for Swedish global giant H&M to announce an opening date for its Sylvia Park store. While that hasn’t yet happened, it was available for questions from New Zealand media this week, and offered a peek at its range at a separate location in Parnell.

H&M’s range in the New Zealand outlet is likely to be just as vast as that of overseas stores. We spotted elaborate beaded gowns, on-trend bodysuits and fashion-forward velvet garments in the womenswear section; with menswear; footwear; accessories; swimwear; childrenswear and activewear also on offer.

If the store opens before the launch of H&M’s collaboration with designer label Kenzo’s on November 3, the collab line will be sold from H&M Auckland.

Australia PR manager Liz Cave says the store will offer a mix of seasonally-appropriate items and items corresponding with the Northern Hemisphere cycle.

“New Zealanders and Australians travel so much, we want to make sure they get the same fashion [as the Northern Hemisphere] at the same time.”

Cave says H&M is now hiring staff for its New Zealand store, but was unable to reveal how big the final team would be. The role of Australia’s country manager, Hans Andersson, extends across New Zealand, but Cave says New Zealand will also have its own management team, who are yet to be named.

She was unable to comment on an open date or the progress of the store’s fit-out.
