Briscoe Group’s executive director to retire

During his 46 years with Briscoe Group, Wall held a variety of accounting and administration roles before moving through positions as group accountant; finance director and company secretary during the 1980s. During this time he managed the legal, fianncial accounting and financing functions of the group, including the expansion of its Briscoes store network, the creation of Rebel Sport and the restructure of the group in preparation for its public share offer in 2001.

In 2002, Wall was appointed deputy managing director of Briscoe Group. Among his contributions as executive director was oversight of the Briscoe Group Scholarship encouraging tertiary-level scholarship for eligible employees and their children, and being on the board of Cure Kids.

Board chair Dame Rosanne Meo described his contribution to Briscoe Group as “immense”.

“His achievements and strong personal commitment to his colleagues at all levels of the Company over so many years cannot be replicated,” she says.

“It is obviously critical to ensure the continuity of complementary skills around the board table and to ensure a board composition that is appropriate and relevant for the future needs of the business. The board will commence its search for a suitable replacement for Alaister very soon.”

Briscoe Group intends to appoint a non-executive director to fill the vacancy.
