Star Wars merchandise has always boded well, given the huge and passionate fandom behind the franchise. But its merch has been taken to the next level by American fast fashion Hot Topic in the form of a womenswear clothing line. The Force Awakens collection is even size inclusive and offers plus sizes.
The clothing line’s colour and designs are inspired by some of the film’s key characters, like Rey, Kylo Ren and Finn. Some of the clothing items are perhaps better suited to cosplay than everyday sort of wear (storm trooper dress, we’re looking at you) but the collection has been well received so far on Hot Topic’s social media channels.
Hot Topic may be onto a good thing profit-wise, considering the immense popularity of the film. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released in December 2015 and went on to gross over US$2 billion at the box office.
