The term “cat fight” didn’t originate out of nowhere, and feisty felines are known to take a bit of a beating from time to time. Luckily, there’s now a product on the market for concerned cat owners: leather body armour.
The body armour for furry friends is being sold via Etsy and costs a pretty penny, at NZ$933.85.
“100% wearable, flexible, and comfortable, the Cat Battle Armor is a for-reals armor harness for your kitty. Completely hand-made from durable veg-tan leather, this is no mere costume piece. Your cat will become an unstoppable force for slaughter in this fully articulated suit, shielding him/her from foes while allowing unimpeded movement across the battlefield or living room floor,” the description reads.
Andy Fyfe, owner of the store, told Buzzfeed he’d never actually intended to sell the armour, but a picture posted on social media of his cat wearing it went viral.
He said the body armour hadn’t been flying out the door, but “we’ve since developed a customer base of really wonderful, eccentric, and creative people who have sought us out as the artists who will try to make the things you can’t get anywhere else”.
He also said it was ethical, as the leather armour can’t harm any other creature unless they’re “making a really determined effort to eat the creature wearing it”.
Sadly, the item only ships within the United States, so no Kiwi kitties will be sporting this elaborate get-up anytime soon.
