Ecommerce at MasterCard: Pass it on

How important is ecommerce to MasterCard customers, and why do you think that is?

A recent MasterCard survey of shopping habits showed 75 percent of New Zealanders regularly shop online.  This makes ecommerce a really important focus for MasterCard.  New Zealand has always been a market leader in innovative payments and we continue to be ahead of the curve globally.

Tell us about what MasterCard can offer retailers in terms of innovation in the ecommerce space.

Launched in April 2014, MasterCard’s digital wallet solution, MasterPass, is an increasingly popular way for New Zealanders to shop fast, simply and securely online.  The wallet securely stores the user’s credit, debit or prepaid card information, along with their delivery information, so it is easily there when they go to checkout from a retailer’s website.  MasterPass removes the need to enter payment details every time a purchase is made – which is particularly useful for those devices with smaller screens. 

One of the major benefits to retailers to accept MasterPass is the reduced opportunity for shopping cart abandonment increasing conversion.  Retailers can enable themselves to accept MasterPass payments through a simply integration on their checkout page.
